BEGINNINGS AT BAR W

John-Thomas Williams embarked on his Bar W Guest Ranch adventure in 2022. He initially arrived in Whitefish, Montana, during the winter, seizing the off-season to contribute to the ranch's construction projects and engage with the horses. John’s versatility and dedication quickly became evident as he tackled a variety of tasks across the ranch. His commitment to horses and hard work earned him a promotion to Assistant Head Wrangler in 2024.

As the Assistant Head Wrangler, John-Thomas plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the ranch’s riding program. He is responsible for properly saddling all the horses and matching each rider with the ideal horse. His attention to detail helps ensure that rides depart on schedule and guests have a memorable experience. John-Thomas also greets guests before their rides and welcomes them back after their trail adventures. Additionally, he oversees the ranch’s hay supply to ensure the horses are well-fed and occasionally handles fence repairs to maintain the extensive fencing around the property.

John-Thomas values the strong sense of family and community fostered by Bill and Barb Wetzel at Bar W Guest Ranch. It was this welcoming atmosphere that initially drew him to the ranch and continues to make it a special place for him.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Before joining Bar W, John-Thomas had extensive experience with ranch life. He worked on a family ranch, performing traditional ranch tasks such as handling horses and cows and maintaining fences. Additionally, he contributed to his family’s business at the well-known Williams Brothers General Store in Philadelphia, Mississippi.

HOBBIES & FUN FACTS

Outside of his ranch duties, John-Thomas is a talented musician. He plays drums and sings in a band called The Gains, which performs around the Flathead Valley throughout the year. John-Thomas is also passionate about Team Roping—roping on horseback—and enjoys packing gear and trail riding to breathtaking spots in Montana. A fun fact that often surprises guests is that Archie Manning is John-Thomas’s uncle, with Peyton Manning and Eli Manning as his first cousins.
